Mahendra Singh Dhoni will don the Chennai Super Kings colours once again in IPL 2026, the franchise confirmed recently. And as per the latest reports, Sanju Samson is set to join CSK ahead of the new season.
Dhoni has been flirting with retirement rumours but the veteran is confirmed to continue for the upcoming season. Speaking to Cricbuzz, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed the news, saying, "That's right," and added, "MS has told us that he will be available for the next season. "
The legendary wicketkeeper-batter, 44, has been the face of CSK since 2008, except during the two seasons when the team was suspended. If Dhoni takes the field again, it will be his 17th season with the Super Kings and 19th in the Indian Premier League.
Over the years, he has featured in 248 matches for CSK, scoring 4,865 runs and guiding the team to five championship titles - in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.
Although Dhoni returned to lead the side in IPL 2025 after Ruturaj Gaikwad's injury, he is expected to hand over the captaincy next season. However, the veteran is still deeply involved in the franchise's planning and is scheduled to meet Gaikwad, head coach Stephen Fleming, and other senior officials to discuss the team's roadmap.
CSK will finalize their list of retained players before the November 15 deadline ahead of the 2026 auction. Dhoni is expected to play a key role in their retentions and subsequent planning for the mini auction, which will be held in December.
How much Money will MS Dhoni earn in IPL 2026?
MS Dhoni was retained ahead of IPL 2025 as the former India captain was roped in as an uncapped India player. He was earning Rs 4 crore at the franchise, and is set to earn the same amount in IPL 2026 as well. The former India captain is one of the biggest earners in total in the IPL spanning the years.
Sanju Samson joins CSK
Apart from Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad is set to be retained. Sanju Samson, on the other hand, is set to join CSK after his trade move from the Rajasthan Royals. The Super Kings, five-time IPL champions, will be aiming to conjure up a strong squad.
Samson, who was tipped to leave the Royals, has finally got his desired move. The Kerala-born player will wear the famous Chennai Yellow in IPL 2026 and it promises to be an intriguing journey for him. Sanju was roped in by RR for Rs 18 crore last year, and is expected to earn the same amount as he plays for CSK next season.
