Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings are set to face off once again in IPL 2026 when the two sides meet at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday, May 15.
The previous meeting between the two teams earlier this week produced a run-fest, with CSK chasing down 204 comfortably. But conditions in Lucknow could once again become one of the biggest talking points heading into Match 59.
Ekana Stadium pitch report for LSG vs CSK
The Ekana Stadium has remained one of the few bowling-friendly venues in IPL 2026, especially when compared to the batting-heavy surfaces seen across the tournament this season.
Traditionally, Lucknow's surface has assisted slower bowlers and cutters, with the pitch often gripping enough to make strokeplay difficult during
the middle overs.
Across five IPL 2026 matches played here so far, the average batting score has hovered around 161, underlining the venue's slower nature.
That said, the surface has not been completely one-dimensional.
LSG's recent home clash against RCB produced a much higher-scoring contest, proving that batters can still dominate if they settle in early and attack during the powerplay.
The pitch is therefore expected to offer a balanced contest once again:
- early assistance for seamers
- grip and turn for spinners
- improving batting conditions once set
Spinners could dominate the middle overs
The surface is likely to strongly favour Chennai's spin attack.
CSK's overseas duo of Noor Ahmad and Akeal Hosein could become major factors on a slowing Ekana wicket, especially against LSG's aggressive middle-order hitters like Nicholas Pooran.
Noor Ahmad was particularly effective in the previous meeting between the two sides, controlling the middle overs while conceding only 24 runs in four overs.
Lucknow's own spin options, including Ravi Bishnoi and Shahbaz Ahmed, are also expected to enjoy the conditions.
LSG vs CSK Toss could still matter
Although Ekana has historically produced low-scoring matches, chasing teams have enjoyed slightly more success overall.
Out of 27 IPL matches played at the venue:
- Teams batting first have won: 12
- Teams batting second have won: 14
- No result: 1
With dew occasionally becoming a factor under lights, captains may still prefer bowling first despite the slower nature of the pitch.
IPL stats and records at Ekana Stadium
- Matches played: 27
- Won batting first: 12
- Won batting second: 14
- Average first innings score: 173
- Highest team total: 235
- Highest successful chase: 206
LSG looking for revenge after previous defeat
The previous clash between these sides saw Lucknow post an imposing 203, powered by Josh Inglis' explosive 85 off 33 balls.
However, CSK chased the target comfortably thanks to Urvil Patel's brutal 65 off just 23 deliveries.
That defeat further deepened LSG's disappointing season, with the franchise still struggling to find the right balance despite multiple changes to both batting and bowling combinations.
Now sitting near the bottom of the table, LSG will be desperate to use home conditions to their advantage and end their campaign on a stronger note.
CSK eye playoff momentum
Chennai Super Kings, meanwhile, continue to build momentum at the perfect stage of the tournament.
With six wins already this season, CSK remain firmly in the playoff race and could move even closer to qualification with another victory in Lucknow.
Their bowling-heavy setup appears particularly well suited to Ekana's slower surface, especially if Noor Ahmad and Akeal Hosein once again dominate the middle overs.
Having already beaten LSG once this season, CSK will now look to complete a league double and further strengthen their playoff push.
