The Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 will bring more than 11,000 athletes from 45 countries and regions to Japan from September 19 to October 4, with several young competitors stepping onto the senior continental stage.
From Indian cricket's Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to Philippine tennis star Alexandra Eala and Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, these are some of the Under-23 athletes attracting attention ahead of the Games.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi - Cricket, India
At 15, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is among the youngest athletes competing at Aichi-Nagoya and has already established himself as one of India's most talked-about young cricketers.
The left-hander became the youngest cricketer to represent India in 2026 after a record-setting IPL campaign in which he scored 776 runs in 16
matches at an average of 48.5.
His Asian Games appearance comes after an extraordinary rise through Indian cricket and gives him another opportunity to compete on the senior international stage.
Alexandra Eala - Tennis, Philippines
Alexandra Eala arrives in Japan after the most significant season of her career.
The 21-year-old became the first Filipina to win a WTA Tour singles title when she triumphed at the DC Open in August. She had also reached the fourth round at Wimbledon and made the last 16 at WTA 1000 events in Dubai, Indian Wells and Miami.

Eala also defeated six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Świątek at Wimbledon on her way to the fourth round.
Ranked 18th in the world, Eala is the top seed in both singles and doubles at the Asian Games after choosing to represent the Philippines in Japan.
Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage - Javelin, Sri Lanka
Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage has already rewritten Sri Lankan athletics history before arriving in Aichi-Nagoya.

The 23-year-old became the first Sri Lankan to throw beyond 90 metres when he recorded 92.62m at the Rome Diamond League in June. The throw was a national record and the world-leading mark at the time.
He has since surpassed 90m twice more, including a 92.07m winning effort in Zurich. He also defeated Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra to win Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow.
With Sri Lanka having won only two Olympic medals, both silver, Pathirage is already looking towards LA28 and the possibility of becoming the country's first Olympic champion.

Singapore's Amanda Yap, 15, arrives after becoming the country's first gymnast to reach a World Championships final before winning balance-beam silver at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

China's 13-year-old Yu Zidi is another standout. A World Championships relay medallist at 12, she will compete in the 200m butterfly and the 200m and 400m individual medleys.
Japan's 16-year-old Nishiyama Misa will make her senior international debut on home soil after winning the NHK Trophy and All-Japan All-Around Championships earlier this year.
Singapore swimmer Russel Pang, 16, will also make his Asian Games debut after finishing fifth in the 1,500m freestyle at the Commonwealth Games and lowering his own national record.
Afghanistan's 20-year-old Allah Ghazanfar, meanwhile, is already an established international cricketer after making his ODI debut as a teenager and emerging as one of Afghanistan's leading young bowling prospects.
For all of them, Aichi-Nagoya represents more than another major tournament. It is an opportunity to test their credentials against Asia's established stars - and, potentially, announce the next generation of continental sporting talent.
