Paris Saint-Germain moved four points clear at the top of Ligue 1 after a 3-0 home win over Nantes, driven by a brace from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The result strengthened Paris Saint-Germain’s position ahead of Lens, with only five league fixtures still on the schedule this season.
With that cushion established, Luis Enrique stressed how important every remaining match is in the Ligue 1 title race. The Paris Saint-Germain head coach highlighted the strong campaign Lens are delivering, and pointed out that the two sides still have a meeting scheduled in Lens before the season finishes.
Reflecting on the pressure from Lens, Luis Enrique said: "When you look at the season Lens have had, and the level they are at, it is clear they want to keep improving,"
he added. "It was important for us to show our desire to win this league again. It will be difficult. We still have matches to play, and we have to play Lens away from home. "
Paris Saint-Germain’s coach also assessed the quality of the display against Nantes, praising both the scoreline and the control shown. Luis Enrique stated: "I would say [our performance] was almost perfect. It was important to win this game with not much of the season left. I think we clearly deserved the victory. I'm pleased that we put in a very good performance. "
Kvaratskhelia’s form remained strong, as the Georgia international reached seven goals in all competitions since 11 March. No player across the top five European leagues scored more during that stretch, placing Kvaratskhelia alongside the most efficient attackers in Europe over that recent period.
The 25-year-old contributed more than goals against Nantes, leading Paris Saint-Germain in several attacking metrics. Kvaratskhelia recorded three successful dribbles, won six duels and hit the target with three attempts. Only Desire Doue managed more touches inside the opposition penalty area, registering eight compared to Kvaratskhelia’s seven for Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking afterwards, Luis Enrique chose to emphasise Kvaratskhelia’s attitude as much as technical qualities. The head coach explained: "Khvicha has been at a high level all season, Luis Enrique told reporters during his post-match press conference. I'm not speaking about his quality because everyone knows about that. But I'm talking about his character, the way he defends, regardless of the fixture. So that is really important. "
The impact of Kvaratskhelia’s brace, combined with a solid defensive display, ensured Paris Saint-Germain collected three points without major late pressure from Nantes. The performance strengthened confidence within the squad as the Ligue 1 run-in continues, with the upcoming trip to Lens standing out as a decisive moment for Paris Saint-Germain.
