India A's semi-final in the Rising Stars Asia Cup ended in heartbreak as they lost to Bangladesh A following a dramatic Super Over in Doha on Friday.
There were questions despite his explosive innings earlier,
why Vaibhav Suryavanshi was not selected to bat in the Super Over.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi had been in fine form during the match, racing to 38 from just 15 deliveries. His quick-fire cameo featured two boundaries and four sixes, helping India A reach a total of 194. Yet, after the contest was tied and proceeded to a Super Over, the management opted not to send him in to bat.
India lost two wickets in the first two deliveries of the super over, and Bangladesh then scored their run with a wide as the Indian team crashed out of the competition.
Why did Vaibhav Suryavanshi not Bat in Super Over?
When questioned about the selection, India A captain Jitesh Sharma clarified during the post-match presentation that the decision was based on the team's strategic preferences for different match situations. "Within our lineup, Vaibhav and Priyansh Arya are specialists during the powerplay," Jitesh explained. "For the closing stages, Ashutosh (Sharma) and Ramandeep (Singh) have shown they can finish games with power hitting".
Thus, the management entrusted Super Over responsibilities to Ashutosh Sharma and Ramandeep Singh, believing their finishing abilities would yield better returns under pressure-packed conditions often resembling 'death overs' rather than early field restrictions. Jitesh confirmed, "The Super Over lineup was a collective decision, but I made the final call".
