Paris Saint-Germain kept the Trophee des Champions after a 2-2 draw and 4-1 shoot-out win over Marseille in Kuwait, with Lucas Chevalier the decisive figure. The goalkeeper denied Matt O'Riley and Hamad Traore from the spot, as PSG secured a 14th success in this curtain-raiser match.
The game swung several times. Ousmane Dembele struck first for PSG, but Mason Greenwood levelled from the penalty Chevalier conceded. Marseille then scored twice in 11 minutes late on to turn the scoreline around, before Goncalo Ramos forced penalties with a vital second PSG goal.
PSG’s victory continues a strong run in the Trophee des Champions, with four straight wins in this competition and 14 overall. Marseille still pushed the European champions hard, despite
trailing PSG by seven points in Ligue 1, and forced a tense finish in Kuwait’s neutral setting.

Marquinhos admitted Marseille tested PSG through the full 90 minutes and beyond. The captain told Ligue 1+: "They believed until the very end. They believed, but they didn't succeed," before adding: "It's good to have teams facing us; it makes us grow, it challenges us. "

Chevalier reflected on a testing half-year since joining PSG from Lille last summer, and on a demanding night. "I'm still being measured because it hasn't been easy for six months, even the match wasn't easy," Chevalier said. "In the end, the team didn't give up and I knew that if it went to penalties, I was going to save them. "
The goalkeeper explained the mindset that underpinned those two saves. "I was too determined today to help the team and win this trophy. I'm happy, still being measured, but very happy for myself and PSG. " Chevalier’s composure under pressure strengthened PSG’s hold on a competition the club often controls.
Attention now moves back to Ligue 1, where PSG and Marseille meet again on February 8. Marquinhos expects Luis Enrique’s side to look sharper by then. "It's a very important moment in the season," the defender said. "In a month, we'll prepare for a better match than today and win comfortably. "
The Kuwait meeting offered regional supporters a close look at two major French clubs and highlighted the current gap in results. PSG extended a strong record in the Trophee des Champions, while Marseille showed periods of control. Chevalier’s penalty display and Marquinhos’ comments underlined PSG’s aim to keep improving before February’s league clash.
