SA20 2025-26: South Africa's flagship franchise T20 competition, the SA20, is all set to light up the summer once again as the fourth edition begins on December 26. Since its launch in 2022, the league has rapidly grown into one of the most-watched T20 tournaments worldwide, positioning itself alongside the IPL and the Big Bash League on the global cricket calendar.
The 2025-26 season has been advanced by a few weeks due to the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled in February in India and Sri Lanka. As in previous editions, the league will feature six franchises, all owned by IPL teams, blending elite international stars with South Africa's best domestic talent.
The tournament opener will see defending champions MI Cape Town take on Durban's Super Giants
in Cape Town, while the final is slated for January 25 after four weeks of high-intensity action.
One of the major talking points heading into Season 4 is whether Sunrisers Eastern Cape's stronghold can finally be broken. The Orange Army reached all three previous finals, winning back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024 before suffering a crushing loss to MI Cape Town in last season's final. This year, however, they begin a new chapter with Tristan Stubbs taking over the captaincy from Aiden Markram.
Pretoria Capitals, runners-up in 2023, also look refreshed with a youthful squad and a high-profile coaching setup. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly will lead the backroom staff, assisted by South African legend Shaun Pollock. Meanwhile, Paarl Royals, Joburg Super Kings and Durban's Super Giants will be eager to push for their first-ever final appearance.
