The Women's Premier League is set to commence in the early months of 2026, as the auction is scheduled in this month.
After the India Women's team's amazing ODI World Cup victory, the upcoming edition of
the WPL promises much more in terms of action and thrill.
WPL 2026 Schedule
The highly anticipated WPL 2026 is poised to return with its fourth edition, set between January 7 and February 3, 2026. This year, the league will be hosted across two prominent cricketing hubs of India. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to officially confirm the details during the WPL auction scheduled for November 27 in New Delhi.
WPL 2026 Venues
As per reports, the WPL 2026 is set to be held across two cities, Mumbai and Baroda. The DY Patil Stadium may host matches in Mumbai.
WPL 2026 Matches
The opening leg of the tournament is likely to be staged at Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium, a venue cherished by many Indian women cricketers for its historic significance and supportive crowds. The stadium carries special sentimental value as it hosted key matches during India's Women's World Cup triumph.
The league is expected to shift to Baroda around mid-January, with the Kotambi Stadium set to host the latter half and possibly the final match of the tournament. The choice of Baroda as a host city coincides with the scheduling considerations around a men's ODI between India and New Zealand on January 11 in the same city, ensuring seamless coordination in the cricket calendar.
The decision to split the WPL between Mumbai and Baroda follows thorough deliberations, with other cities like Lucknow and Bengaluru also in contention but Mumbai and Baroda emerging as preferred hosts. The WPL 2026 auction, a critical event where franchises finalize their squads, promises to be a one-day affair with all franchises eagerly preparing after recent player retention announcements.
As defending champions, Mumbai Indians Women will look to secure their third crown, having won two out of the previous three seasons. The tournament is now advancing to early January, to accomodate the ICC T20 World Cup in February and March, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
