Cooper Flagg achieved a significant milestone in the NBA, scoring 42 points against the Utah Jazz. This set a new record for an 18-year-old player. Despite this, the Dallas Mavericks lost 140-133. Previously, LeBron James held the record with 37 points in December 2003. The Mavericks' current season record is 10-17, and Flagg prioritises team performance over personal accolades.
Flagg expressed his mixed feelings about the game: "Obviously, we didn't win. So, it's tough for me to want to be happy or any of that," he said. He acknowledged his mistakes during the game and emphasised his focus on improving daily and helping his team secure more victories. "I'm not really focused on a lot of that stuff [the records]. I'm more just focused on being
present, day to day," he added.
In recent games, Flagg has been impressive, averaging 25.7 points over seven matches. During the game against the Jazz, he also contributed seven rebounds, six assists, and two blocks. His performance places him among elite company; he's only the third teenager to achieve at least 40 points, five rebounds, and five assists in a single game alongside LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Mavericks coach Jason Kidd praised Flagg's development: "The more time he spends on the floor, the more he sees, the better he gets. " Kidd highlighted how Flagg showcased his skills during this particular match. As Flagg approaches his 19th birthday on Sunday, he remains committed to enhancing his gameplay and contributing to his team's success.
Flagg's dedication to improvement is evident as he continues to refine his skills on the court. While individual achievements are noteworthy, his primary goal remains helping the Mavericks improve their standing this season.
