The Women's Premier League finally has its first centurion, and it is a name that will now sit permanently in the tournament's record books. Mumbai Indians' Natalie Sciver-Brunt created history on Monday,
becoming the first player to score a century in WPL history with a commanding hundred against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Vadodara.
Sciver-Brunt reached the landmark in just 57 balls, producing a masterclass in controlled aggression. Her innings, laced with 16 boundaries and a six, anchored Mumbai Indians' batting effort and lifted them to a competitive total in a must-win encounter. Hayley Matthews provided crucial support at the other end, striking a fluent 56 as the pair rebuilt momentum for MI after a cautious start.
The knock marked a long-awaited milestone for the league, which began in 2023 and had seen several near-misses but no triple-figure scores until now. Sciver-Brunt's innings not only broke that barrier but did so under pressure, with Mumbai Indians fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive.

The context of the innings made it even more significant for Mumbai. The two-time champions entered the match on the back of three consecutive defeats and with just two wins from six games. A loss would leave them staring at elimination, while victories in their remaining fixtures against RCB and Gujarat Giants are essential to stay in contention. Even then, net run rate and other results could come into play.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru, by contrast, continue to sit comfortably at the top of the standings. With 10 points from six matches, they have already sealed qualification for the playoffs, and another win from their final two games would secure them a direct place in the final. Under the WPL format, the top team advances straight to the final, while the second- and third-placed sides contest the Eliminator.
For all the permutations and pressure surrounding the points table, the night ultimately belonged to Sciver-Brunt. After three and a half seasons, the WPL has its first century, and a moment that will be replayed every time the league's history is told.
