Tyrique George Joins Everton On Loan From Chelsea As Dwight McNeil Move To Crystal Palace Falls Through

Everton confirm the loan capture of Chelsea forward Tyrique George for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign, as Crystal Palace’s late effort to sign Dwight McNeil collapses. The agreement includes an option for Everton to purchase George permanently in the summer window.

The 19-year-old England Under-21 international has seen limited Premier League involvement this season, featuring only four times. However, George has impressed in cup competitions, registering two goals and one assist in three EFL Cup outings and adding a further goal in the Champions League.

Everton target another wide player after Jack Grealish suffers a serious foot injury last month, which may end the season early. The Merseyside club intend to refresh attacking options,

and George’s arrival offers additional depth across the forward line.

The plan to reshape the wing positions also included McNeil’s potential departure. Everton had agreed a proposed £20m deadline-day transfer with Crystal Palace, yet the move breaks down at a late stage, reportedly linked to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s unsuccessful switch to AC Milan.

George says the chance to work under David Moyes played a major part in the decision. "I feel ready, ready to make an impact," George told the Everton website. "It feels like an exciting time for the club. Im going to attack this new challenge. I want to hit the ground running as quickly as possible and hopefully I can do that. The gaffer, David Moyes, was another reason [I wanted to join]. Hes an amazing manager who has coached so many players, like Wayne Rooney, and players like that. I've had a brief conversation with him and he's an amazing person as well. I just want to enjoy it, learn under him and improve. "

Across last season, George features 13 times in Chelsea’s Conference League-winning run, contributing one goal and two assists. The forward also scores at the Club World Cup last summer, underlining impact in European and international club competitions despite limited domestic league minutes.
