After a brief injury lay-off, Shubman Gill is set to take the rehabilitation steps at the BCCI Centre of Excellence from Monday (December 1).
As per a report from Times of India, the India Test and ODI
captain will commence his final phase of recovery in Bengaluru, as he aims to return to the side.
Shubman suffered a neck injury in the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata, and was subsequently ruled out of the series. Despite travelling with the team in Guwahati, he was unable to play and returned to Mumbai. As per the report, Gill undertook physiotherapy sessions in Mumbai, before flying back to his hometown, Chandigarh.
The positive update is that Gill has felt no discomfort, despite taking multiple flights. The India star didn't pick the bat in these days, but is expected to return to the nets at the CoE, only after advice from the BCCI medical team.
"The moment he is 100% and feels ready for the grind, he will be back with the squad. He is an important all-format player and everyone wants him to be absolutely ready," an official was quoted as saying by Times of India.
Can Shubman Gill play in South Africa T20Is?
Shubman Gill was ruled out of the ODI series against South Africa, as KL Rahul is leading the Indian team in the 50-over format. But the next three to four days will determine his availability in the T20I series. If Gill's injury doesn't aggravate and his recovery phase accelerates, the Punjab-born may be slid into the T20 side as well.
