On the pitch, India struck early through penalty-corner goals from Sanjay (8') and captain Harmanpreet Singh (11' and 43'). Wales showed resilience, creating chances and pulling one back late via Sam Welsh (56') after a goalmouth scramble, but could not overturn the deficit.
Despite the loss, Wales' qualification itself - secured by beating Poland earlier this year, remains a landmark for a self-funded programme. Their next matches against Pakistan and England will continue a campaign built on community support and player commitment rather than professional resources.
