Everton and Wolves meet at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Wednesday, with both sides under pressure. Wolves arrive buoyed by a first Premier League win of the 2025-26 season, while Everton seek stability after
a damaging home defeat to Brentford.
Rob Edwards’ team remain bottom after a poor first half of the campaign, yet recent results suggest momentum is shifting. A 1-1 draw at Manchester United was followed by a 3-0 victory over West Ham at Molineux, ending a 19-game winless league start.
Before that breakthrough, Wolves were edging towards unwanted history. They had been closing in on Bolton Wanderers’ top-flight record of 22 winless games from the beginning of a season, set in 1902-03. The win against West Ham finally halted that slide and injected belief into the squad and supporters.
Edwards felt the West Ham result changed the mood around the club. Reflecting on that first league victory, Edwards said: "There's been more of a bounce around, because people can see a little bit more progression. The lads can feel that as well. The club needed it. The supporters needed it more than anyone else. But we just crack on and keep working hard. "
Much of Wolves’ renewed optimism centres on 18-year-old Mateus Mane, whose fearless display overwhelmed West Ham. Mane was central to Jhon Arias’ opener, then won the penalty converted by Hwang Hee-chan for the second goal, before scoring the third with a precise finish into the bottom-left corner.
That strike made Mane Wolves’ youngest Premier League scorer at 18 years and 109 days. Edwards highlighted how the teenager’s character and energy have affected the dressing room, saying: "He's still at that stage where I'm probably still a bit scary to him, so he won't ask me any questions at all! He's just got to keep doing what he's doing. He's got a really good attitude, but he's affected games very, very well with his intensity and his selfless work, but then real moments of quality and bravery, which I think has rubbed off on the group as well. "
Everton vs Wolves Premier League focus on Everton’s selection issues
Everton enter this match after a 4-2 home loss to Brentford, which was their third defeat in five league games. David Moyes must again cope without several important players, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Jarrad Branthwaite, Idrissa Gueye and Iliman Ndiaye all unavailable through injury or international commitments.
Despite those absences and the congested schedule, Moyes does not expect heavy business in the January market. Moyes said: "I think that we are probably more unlikely than likely [to be busy]. We are looking, but I wouldn't want to get everyone's hopes up. We are looking at some players, but we will be quite careful with it. "
Everton vs Wolves Premier League players to watch and key numbers
Two attackers stand out before this fixture. For Everton, Jack Grealish has become a creative hub. Grealish has six Premier League assists this season, bettered only by his returns in 2022-23 for Manchester City, when he managed seven, and in 2020-21 for Aston Villa, when he recorded 10.
Hwang Hee-chan leads Wolves’ threat after scoring and assisting against West Ham. Hwang now has 30 Premier League goal involvements for Wolves, with 24 goals and six assists. Only Raul Jimenez, with 58, and Matheus Cunha, with 42, have been involved in more Premier League goals for the club.
Everton vs Wolves Premier League head-to-head and home-away trends
Everton won 3-2 at Molineux in August and are chasing their first Premier League double over Wolves since the 2020-21 season. However, Everton have lost their last two league matches at Hill Dickinson Stadium, the first time they have suffered consecutive home defeats at their new ground.
The Toffees last endured three straight home league losses in September 2023, during a sequence of four defeats. Their record against bottom-placed teams has also been mixed, with five losses in their last nine league games against sides starting the day last, alongside three wins and one draw.
Everton’s recent record versus bottom teams improved under Moyes, though. Since Moyes returned as manager, Everton have played one such fixture, beating Southampton 2-0 in May 2025. That result may shape expectations as they host another side currently rooted to the foot of the table.

Everton vs Wolves Premier League away record and Opta prediction
Wolves’ away form remains a major concern, despite recent improvements. They are winless in their last 12 Premier League away matches, drawing twice and losing 10 times, after previously winning four straight away league games before this poor run started.
Historically, though, Wolves have enjoyed some success at Everton. Wolves have won away at Southampton and Tottenham five times each in the Premier League, and only slightly fewer at Everton, where they have four away league victories. That record may offer some encouragement for Edwards’ side.
Opta’s model favours Everton strongly in this contest. The win probability numbers are shown below.
Everton also have a specific incentive, with the chance to end their mini home slump while closing the gap on mid-table rivals. Wolves, meanwhile, seek to build on recent signs of improvement, carry Mateus Mane’s influence into another high-pressure match, and move closer to escaping the bottom of the Premier League table.
