Inter head coach Cristian Chivu is satisfied with the current squad and sees no need for extra signings, even as the schedule stays intense. The Serie A leaders reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals by defeating Torino 2-1 on neutral ground in Monza, and remain five points clear at the top of the league.
Despite Denzel Dumfries being injured, Inter made only one move in the January window, signing Yanis Massolin before immediately loaning Massolin back to Modena. Chivu told Sport Mediaset, as reported by Football Italia: "You can improve a squad even without bringing in new players. " That line underlined Chivu’s faith in those already available.
Chivu described a cautious strategy during the winter window and highlighted the size of the group.
"We tried to do something, but the January transfer market is very tricky. We had 23-24 players, but these great lads from the Under-23 side can give us a hand. We know who we are dealing with and the players we worked with. " Chivu also praised development coaching, stating: "Stefano Vecchi is doing a great job as coach of the Under-23 side, and these lads are improving, so they can be of use to us throughout the season. "
The win over Torino came away from San Siro, which hosted the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games, yet Inter adapted well to Monza. Ange-Yoan Bonny and Andy Diouf, both aged 22, scored the goals that secured progress. Chivu explained the selection choices during this spell, saying: "These are games where you need energy and fresh legs, so I chose the players who had energy. Don’t forget we had a busy January and will have an even busier February. "
| Competition | Fixture | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Coppa Italia | Inter 2-1 Torino | Quarter-final, played in Monza, Inter reached semi-finals |
| Champions League | Inter vs Bodo/Glimt | Two-legged play-off for knockout stage place |
Inter’s approach links a quiet transfer market with a strong push from within the club structure. Chivu views the Under-23 players as support for an already deep squad, rather than emergency cover. The coach expects these younger options to contribute across multiple competitions, especially while Inter balance domestic commitments with European fixtures and regular midweek matches.
Beyond the immediate rotation needs, Chivu stressed the wider project and the need for stability at Inter. "We want to be competitive, to give a sense of consistency to what has been done in recent years. We keep going with belief, hard work, good performances, always aware that we can continue to improve. " The message aligned with Inter’s current position at the top of Serie A.
Inter transfer market calm during Champions League push
The upcoming calendar remains tight, as Inter prepare for a two-legged play-off against Bodo/Glimt to reach the Champions League knockout stages, alongside league games and the Coppa Italia semi-final. Chivu welcomed that busy rhythm, saying: "I am never worried, I like playing football, and as a player I preferred it to training," said Chivu. The coach appears comfortable managing heavy demands.
Ambition, rather than anxiety, frames Inter’s plans for the rest of the campaign under Chivu. "Inter must never lack ambition, but that also must not be mistaken for obsession, because high expectations can create disappointment. We work hard to ensure we are ready, that is what these lads have always done. " That attitude supports a measured response to pressure in domestic and European competitions.
Inter therefore move into February with confidence in squad depth, backed by contributions from the Under-23 group and a stable core. The club head into the Coppa Italia semi-finals and the play-off against Bodo/Glimt while leading Serie A, maintaining a transfer policy that relies more on internal growth than short-term signings.
