Sourav Ganguly's Pretoria Capitals surge to the top of the Betway SA20 table with a commanding bonus-point 53-run thrashing of defending champions MI Cape Town at Centurion on January 13, 2026.
This marks their third straight win, catapulting them to 20 points ahead of Sunrisers Eastern Cape (19), while MI Cape Town teeter on the playoff brink with just two games left.
A raucous sold-out crowd fueled the home side's fire. Sherfane Rutherford's explosive maiden SA20 fifty-53 off 27 balls (3x4, 5x6)-rescued Pretoria from 89/4, powering them to 185/6. The West Indian's carnage included a brutal 69-run stand off 34 balls with Dewald Brevis for the fifth wicket, despite two dropped catches off Corbin Bosch.
Brevis lit up Centurion with back-to-back
sixes off Kagiso Rabada-a no-look flick over fine leg and a one-handed cover blast-while Rutherford hammered Trent Boult for 16 in an over (two sixes, one four).
Defending, Pretoria struck gold as Gideon Peters (3/32) dismantled MI Cape Town's middle order with a double-wicket maiden. Brevis' acrobatic outfield catches- a boundary run-in grab and a full-length dive inches from the turf-sparked a collapse from 46/2 to 55/6, losing four wickets for 11 runs. Reeza Hendricks' gritty 68 not out (50 balls, 4x4, 4x6) couldn't salvage the chase, ending at 132/7.
Ganguly's men now eye home clashes with Paarl Royals and an away tilt against Joburg Super Kings, brimming with momentum in the race for SA20 glory.
After losing the three of the first five matches and winning just one, the recent upsurge have propelled Ganguly's team at the top of SA20 table. The Capitals have two more group stage encounters, Paarl Royals on January 15, followed by Joburg Super Kings two days later.
