Chelsea climbed back to third place in the Women's Super League with a controlled 2-0 victory over Tottenham, halting a run of two straight defeats. Sonia Bompastor's team stayed nine points behind leaders Manchester City, who lost against Arsenal earlier on 8 February 2026, keeping the title race open.
The result also stretched Chelsea's strong Women's Super League record against Tottenham, with Spurs still searching for a first point in this fixture. Tottenham have now faced Chelsea 13 times in WSL action and lost every meeting, the longest such run without a single draw or win in league history.
Tottenham nearly struck first after 11 minutes when Olivia Holdt carried the ball forward in space and drove a strike from 25 yards. The effort beat
the goalkeeper but crashed against the crossbar, and the rebound fell kindly for Chelsea, denying Spurs an early advantage.
The home side kept applying pressure as Julie Blakstad combined well down the wing and delivered a precise cross into the area. The ball found Bethany English, who met it with a first-time volley, yet the attempt flew over the bar and Chelsea escaped again without conceding.
Despite those scares, Chelsea went ahead in the 39th minute from a set piece after Erin Cuthbert swung in a corner that Tottenham failed to clear. The loose ball eventually reached Keira Walsh, left unmarked in the box, and Walsh finished calmly to give the visitors a lead against the run of play.

Chelsea started the second half sharply and doubled the advantage five minutes after the restart when Sjoeke Nusken saw an effort saved by Lize Kope, but Alyssa Thompson reacted first to the rebound and converted, before Sandy Baltimore later missed a chance for a third and Cathinka Tandberg headed over at the opposite end.
Chelsea's win arrived after a rare downturn in league form, as the side had suffered back-to-back WSL defeats for the first time since July 2015 and avoided matching their last run of three successive losses, recorded during the final six fixtures of the 2013 season, by securing these three points.
This victory extended Chelsea's dominance over Tottenham across all competitions in the WSL era, with 18 consecutive wins against Spurs and an aggregate score of 49-10. That sequence includes eight straight away successes, underlining how consistently Chelsea have controlled this particular matchup regardless of venue.
Alyssa Thompson again played a decisive role in front of goal, taking the WSL tally to six goals for the current campaign. That figure already ranks as the third-highest total by a non-English player for the reigning champions in one season while aged 21 or younger, behind Erin Cuthbert in 2018-19 and Kim Little in 2012.
| Player | Club (Season) | WSL goals while 21 or under |
|---|---|---|
| Erin Cuthbert | Chelsea (2018-19) | 8 |
| Kim Little | Arsenal (2012) | 7 |
| Alyssa Thompson | Chelsea (2025-26) | 6 |
Chelsea leave this match with renewed confidence after halting a rare poor spell, moving back into third place and keeping distance to Manchester City manageable, while Tottenham's search for a first WSL point against this opponent continues following another defeat despite several promising moments in attack.
