Mohammed Shami's continued absence from the Indian national cricket setup has sparked a fresh debate, with one of Indian cricket's most influential voices coming to the pacer's defense.

concerns flagged by selectors, Shami's recent red-ball form in domestic cricket and endorsements from ex-captains present a compelling case for his recall. As India experiments with emerging fast-bowling talent, the omission of a proven match-winner has not escaped notice among former cricketers and pundits.
Former India captain and current CAB President Sourav Ganguly has added his weight behind Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined from the national squad since India's ICC Champions Trophy victory earlier this year. Ganguly stated at a Kolkata event that Shami's fitness and form are unquestionable, highlighting the pacer's impact in domestic cricket for Bengal.
"Shami is great, he's bowling exceptionally well. You saw in the 2-3 Ranji trophy matches where he's won Bengal on his own. I'm sure the selectors are watching. I'm sure there is a communication between Shami and selectors, I don't know. But if you ask me in terms of fitness and skill, it's Mohammed Shami we know of. So I really don't see any reason why you can't be playing test matches, ODIs or T20Is for India because that skill is enormous," Ganguly said to the journalists at the Eden Gardens.
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar recently noted ongoing discussions with Shami, clarifying the speedster's omission was based on fitness issues. However, Shami has asserted his readiness, suggesting a possible disconnect in communication with team management.
