Royal Challengers Bengaluru crushed Delhi Capitals by nine wickets in the TATA IPL 2026, delivering one of the most ruthless displays of the season. After the match, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mitchell McClenaghan shared detailed insights on bowling plans, Virat Kohli's consistency, and Josh Hazlewood's threat.
Speaking on JioHotstar's 'Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live', Bhuvneshwar said bowlers must adjust to conditions. On flat wickets, his plans turn defensive, with a focus on limiting runs and boundaries. When there is a swing, his mindset changes. He then hunts wickets and attacks batters.
Bhuvneshwar stressed that defensive bowling is not negative. It means bowling to a clear plan and targeting weaknesses. He said modern batters attack
even when the ball swings in the Powerplay. So bowlers must prepare better, read situations, and adapt quickly during spells.
"The biggest change is that batters no longer hold back, even when the ball is swinging in the Powerplay. Earlier, there was more respect for conditions, but now the approach is consistently aggressive. That's where the mindset shift for bowlers becomes important, being defensive isn't negative, it's about bowling to a plan and targeting weaknesses," Bhuvi added.
Bhuvneshwar highlighted wrist position, alignment, and control of line and length as key to swing. He said red-ball cricket helped him repeat his action and stay consistent. When the ball swings, those basics give bowlers an advantage. They can then exploit movement for as long as possible.
McClenaghan on Kohli's IPL journey
On Star Sports' Mul Cricket Live, JioStar expert Mitchell McClenaghan praised Virat Kohli's run-scoring record. He said scoring 9000 IPL runs against top bowling attacks needs hunger and discipline. Kohli has adjusted his game every season and remained consistent since the 2008 IPL.
McClenaghan recalled that Kohli did not start as an opener. He first batted in the lower middle order. He then moved to number three, nd later opened with Chris Gayle. McClenaghan said that change reshaped Kohli's game and lifted his scoring levels.
McClenaghan believes Kohli will soon reach 10,000 runs. He called Kohli the greatest batter the TATA IPL has seen. He said that greatness comes not only from the volume of runs. It also comes from how Kohli evolved and dominated different eras of the league.
Views on Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hazlewood
On Bhuvneshwar, McClenaghan said the pacer has not tried to reinvent himself. Instead, he repeats the same skills with higher consistency. Time away from international cricket has helped him. He can now plan the year better, work on fitness, and stay fresh for key matches.
McClenaghan said Bhuvneshwar's experience helps in pressure situations. His success comes from hitting troublesome areas and controlling his swing with the new ball. On Hazlewood, McClenaghan said every team wants a bowler like him. RCB, he added, are fortunate to use his height, bounce, and disciplined lengths in Bengaluru.
He explained that Hazlewood rarely offers loose balls. Batters must play very good shots to score. They often attack decent-length deliveries, not half-volleys. His extra bounce rushes batters and feels like added pace. McClenaghan compared him to Morne Morkel due to height and release point.
According to McClenaghan, Hazlewood becomes a nightmare when in rhythm. The extra lift from the pitch, combined with his control, troubles even set batters. Against the Delhi Capitals, Hazlewood's spells showed that effect again. His questions from a good length backed RCB's dominant nine-wicket win.
