Liverpool’s winless run in the Premier League extended as Burnley earned a 1-1 draw at Anfield, despite long spells of pressure from Arne Slot’s side. The result meant a fourth consecutive league draw for
Liverpool, while Scott Parker’s 19th-placed team collected another valuable point in the relegation fight.
The hosts created far more chances and finished with 32 attempts, their highest Premier League tally since a match against Brentford in January last season, when they recorded 37 shots. Yet Liverpool still failed to secure victory, continuing a sequence that has seen control without enough reward.
Data highlighted Liverpool’s frustrations, with an expected goals figure of 2.96 compared to Burnley’s 0.4. Slot’s players dominated territory and possession but lacked a killer edge. Burnley, by contrast, scored from the only effort on target, underlining how little margin for error Liverpool had throughout the contest.
Florian Wirtz had given Liverpool the lead in the first half with a precise strike into the top-left corner, moments after Dominik Szoboszlai smashed a penalty against the crossbar. The spot-kick followed Florentino’s foul on Cody Gakpo, but the miss maintained the tension inside Anfield as Burnley stayed in touch.
Marcus Edwards’ 65th-minute equaliser changed the mood of the game, arriving against the run of play. The winger drilled home Burnley’s leveller from the visitors’ sole shot on target, punishing Liverpool for failing to add to Wirtz’s opener during a dominant but wasteful spell either side of half-time.
Liverpool came close to a second goal before the equaliser when Cody Gakpo’s effort was hooked off the line by Bashir Humphreys. Later, with just under 15 minutes left, Hugo Ekitike thought a winner had arrived, but a close-range finish from a Virgil van Dijk headed knockdown was ruled out for offside.
The draw continued a difficult pattern for Liverpool in league play. They have now drawn six of their last nine Premier League fixtures, winning the other three. It is also the first time since January 2008 that Liverpool have recorded four straight draws in the competition, underlining their recent struggles to close games out.
Burnley’s point owed much to Edwards’ recent improvement. The attacker has now been involved in three goals across the last six games, with one goal and two assists. That run follows a slow start, when Edwards failed to score or assist in the first six appearances for the Clarets after joining Parker’s squad.

For Liverpool, this match summed up recent league form: heavy pressure, high xG, but another draw on the record. Burnley departed Anfield with a point that could prove important, while Slot’s side were again left reflecting on missed chances and a growing list of dropped Premier League points.
