India's freestyle wrestlers opened their account on day five of the 2026 U17 World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, with a silver and two bronze medals on August 01, 2026. The medals came in the 48kg, 55kg and 110kg categories, adding to India's strong overall showing.
In the 48kg division, Aaryan reached the gold medal bout after a strong run. He met Kazakhstan's Bakdaulet Agabek in the final and lost 0-10, taking silver for India. In 55kg, Prathamesh Suryakanth Patil beat USA's Chase Karenbaur 8-0 in the bronze playoff.
India's third freestyle medal came through Arush Rana in the heavyweight 110kg class. Fresh from gold at the U17 Asian Wrestling Championships, Rana defeated Kazakhstan's Sagyndyk Temirgaly 9-1 on points (VPO1) in the bronze
medal match. He stayed in control through the bout to secure bronze.
The U17 World Championships end tomorrow, with Indian wrestlers still set to compete in the remaining Men's Freestyle categories: 45kg, 51kg, 60kg, 71kg and 92kg. India's total medal tally stands at 10, with three in Men's Freestyle and seven in Women's Wrestling.
