India's two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu has climbed to sixth in the latest BWF World Rankings following her title-winning campaign at the Hylo Open 2026 in Germany. The Indian shuttler also secured qualification for the BWF World Tour Finals, marking her return to the season-ending tournament after four years.
Sindhu defeated Denmark's Line Højmark Kjaersfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the women's singles final to clinch her second title of the season. The Super 500 triumph earned her 9,200 ranking points, helping her rise two places to World No. 6.
The 31-year-old had broken into the top 10 a week earlier, moving up to eighth following her runner-up finish at the French Open, where she lost to World No. 1 An Se-young. Her latest achievement marks
a significant turnaround after an inconsistent spell earlier in the season.
Sindhu's return to form began in May, with quarter-final and semi-final appearances at the Singapore Open and Australian Open, respectively. Her biggest breakthrough came at the Japan Open in July, where she defeated three-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi 21-17, 21-17 in the final to secure her first individual title since December 2024.
Although she endured disappointing exits at the China Open, World Championships and Asian Games, Sindhu regained momentum during the European leg of the season. She reached the French Open final before carrying her impressive form into Germany, where she won all five matches at the Hylo Open without dropping a game.
With her qualification confirmed, Sindhu will return to the BWF World Tour Finals for the first time since 2021. The 2026 edition will be held in Hangzhou, China, from December 9 to 13. This will be her sixth appearance at the prestigious tournament.
Sindhu, who won the women's singles title in 2018, remains the only Indian to have achieved the feat at the season-ending championships.
World No. 1 An Se-young, Akane Yamaguchi, Wang Zhiyi and Chen Yufei have also secured their places in the eight-player women's singles field. The remaining qualification spots will be decided after the November 24 cut-off.
Sindhu's rise to sixth in the world rankings is her best position since October 2022, when she briefly occupied the fifth spot. Her recent performances have now put her back among the leading contenders in women's badminton ahead of the season-ending championships.
