Sunrisers Hyderabad have suffered another injury setback in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026, with seamer David Payne ruled out for the remainder of the tournament due to an ankle injury. Payne had only recently joined the squad as a replacement for Jack Edwards, who himself was sidelined earlier in the season with a foot injury.
The English pacer featured in just two matches for SRH. He returned figures of 2 for 35 in three overs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru but struggled in his second outing, conceding 35 runs in two overs against Kolkata Knight Riders without taking a wicket.
SRH's injury concerns do not end there.
The franchise had already lost England all-rounder Brydon Carse earlier in the campaign due to a hand injury sustained
during a net session. Carse did not feature in a single match this season, prompting SRH to bring in Sri Lankan fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka as his replacement.
Amid the setbacks, there is some positive news for the Hyderabad-based side. Australian captain Pat Cummins has been cleared to rejoin the squad after undergoing scans on his back in Sydney. Cummins is yet to feature this season but is now targeting a return to action, potentially against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on April 25.
In Cummins' absence, SRH have been led by Ishan Kishan. The team currently sits fourth on the points table with two wins from five matches, tied on four points with several teams but ahead on net run rate. They head into their next fixture against Chennai Super Kings in Hyderabad on the back of a morale-boosting win over Rajasthan, powered by impressive performances from uncapped pacers Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain.
