Steve Clarke has agreed a new contract that keeps Clarke as Scotland manager until after the 2030 World Cup. Clarke’s side enters the 2026 World Cup with Haiti first in Group C on 13 June, and expectations are rising. Scotland have never reached the World Cup knockout rounds, exiting in the group stage at all eight previous appearances. This squad now carries hope of ending that record after a run of consistent tournament qualifications.
When announcing the extension, the Scottish Football Association
highlighted Clarke’s impact and the timing before the finals in America. Clarke said: "I am truly honoured to lead my squad into our first men's World Cup in 28 years and I'm proud to continue as head coach. I know the Scotland supporters appreciate the achievements of this group in qualifying for back-to-back Euros, and I'm equally sure the whole nation rejoiced in our qualification for the 2026World Cup after such a long time. Clarke first took charge of the Scotland national team in 2019, following Alex McLeish’s second spell. Since then, Scotland have qualified for Euro 2020, Euro 2024 and the 2026 World Cup. Group-stage elimination followed at both recent European Championships, yet no previous Scotland manager has led the country to three major tournaments.
