Hardik Pandya stole the spotlight on his return to international cricket, smashing a blistering 59 off 28 balls to lift India to 175/6 after a shaky top order.
India's innings began on a disappointing note with early dismissals of Suryakumar Yadav, who fell after a brief burst of boundaries, and Shubman Gill, whose comeback ended almost immediately. Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma steadied the innings with a composed partnership, while Axar Patel chipped in with handy runs before Pandya unleashed a flurry of big hits at the death.
South Africa's response never gathered momentum. Arshdeep Singh struck in the powerplay to remove Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs, putting the visitors under pressure from the outset. The rest of the bowling unit followed suit-Axar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Shivam Dube all added to the damage. Except for Dewald Brevis, who managed 22, no batter offered resistance as the innings ended in just 12.3 overs.
India now enter the second T20I with confidence soaring, while South Africa will look to bounce back and keep the series alive.
