Meghalaya's Akash Kumar Choudhary made cricket history during the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh at the C K Pithawala Ground in Surat.
Choudhary broke the all-time world
record for the fastest half-century in first-class cricket, reaching 50 runs in just 11 balls. His explosive innings included eight sixes, notably striking six sixes in one over against Limar Dabi, a feat that places him firmly among cricket's greatest power hitters.
This incredible display surpassed the previous record held by Wayne White, who had hit a fifty in 12 balls for Leicestershire against Essex in 2012. Choudhary remained unbeaten on 50 off 14 balls, propelling Meghalaya to declare their innings at 628 for six.
The match witnessed some strong performances before Choudhary's arrival, with Arpit Bhatewara scoring 207 and R. Dalal contributing 144 runs. However, it was Choudhary's blitzkrieg batting that ultimately pushed Meghalaya well past the 600-run mark. His achievement not only set a new record for the Ranji Trophy but also became the fastest recorded fifty in all first-class matches globally.
