The Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir can be in jeopardy amid the bomb blast at the Capital, which has already claimed several lives.
A high-intensity bomb blast occurred in a parked
car near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in Delhi, resulting in at least eight deaths and multiple injuries. The explosion caused a massive fire engulfing three to four nearby vehicles, leading to widespread panic and a high alert across the national capital.
Emergency services, including seven fire tenders and multiple ambulances, rushed to the scene, and injured individuals were taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital, where some succumbed to their injuries. The death toll is already rising and as per the latest update, 8 people have lost their lives.
Eyewitnesses described the blast as extremely powerful, with streetlights going off and flames visible from nearby residences, causing shock and fear among locals.
The area, close to the busy Chandni Chowk, was cordoned off by Delhi Police, and forensic and special investigation teams, including the National Security Guard (NSG) and a Special Investigation Team (SIT), began probing the incident for possible terror links. Security measures have been heightened not just in Delhi but also in neighbouring states like Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh in response to this attack.
Amid this, the Ranji Trophy match, which is being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, is facing concerns. With the final day's play on Tuesday (November 11), the players currently have no clarity on the current situation. MyKhel understands that the players and the officials have not been notified about any postponement of the proceedings.
"We have just got the news. No one has so far told us anything about any postponement. We hope the match will happen," a source close to the proceedings told MyKhel.
Jammu and Kashmir are on the verge of securing a massive win over Delhi in the encounter. They need 124 runs to win the match with eight wickets in hand.
