Paris Saint-Germain's manager, Luis Enrique, is excited about the competitive nature of this season's Ligue 1 title race. He used this as motivation for PSG's impressive 5-0 victory over Rennes. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia scored twice, with Senny Mayulu, Ibrahim Mbaye, and Goncalo Ramos also finding the net. This win marked PSG's 40th consecutive home game with a goal in Ligue 1, amassing 104 goals during this streak.
Despite their dominant performance against Rennes, PSG did not end the day at the top of the table. Lens currently leads by one point after securing a 2-1 win over Nantes on Saturday. This narrow gap between the top two teams is the smallest since the 2020-21 season when PSG was overtaken by Lille for the title. Marseille and Lille trail
PSG by four points, while Lyon could close within six points if they win against Lorient.
Speaking to Ligue 1+, Luis Enrique expressed satisfaction with his team's performance: "It was practically perfect. We deserved the victory. Rennes played very well; they don't really deserve this result. " He added that having more teams vying for the title serves as motivation for PSG. "We really like going through hardship; we are a team used to that," he said.
Senny Mayulu's goal marked his 10th for PSG across all competitions and his fourth in Ligue 1. At just 19 years and 203 days old, he became the third-youngest player to reach double figures for PSG, following Eric Renaut and Kylian Mbappe. Luis Enrique praised his young players' ability to perform under pressure at Parc des Princes.
"When you see youngsters with those qualities, with their personality to play at the Parc des Princes without feeling any pressure, it's very important," Enrique stated. He emphasized his high expectations for young players and stressed the importance of valuing the trust placed in them.
PSG dominated Rennes statistically as well, attempting 20 shots compared to Rennes' six and winning the expected goals (xG) battle by 2.01 to 0.16. Their next challenge is against Athletic Club at San Mames in the Champions League on Wednesday before facing Metz in Ligue 1 on Saturday.
