BWF World Championships 2026: With less than a month before the BWF World Championships 2026, defending champions Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei of Malaysia have withdrawn from the BWF World Championships 2026 due to Toh's ongoing recovery from a major knee injury. Chen/Toh had made history in Paris last year, becoming the first Malaysian mixed doubles pair to win gold.
The withdrawal follows Toh's ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury to her left knee, which she sustained during the quarterfinals of the KFF Singapore Open 2026 in May. After undergoing surgery, the world No. 7 is currently focused on rehabilitation and recovery.
Despite the setback, Malaysia will still be represented by two mixed doubles pairs in the tournament. With Toh's absence
opening a spot, reserve pair Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien have been promoted into the main draw, joining experienced compatriots Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Lai Jemie.
The mixed doubles field had already seen several withdrawals, with Indonesia's Adnan Maulana/Indah Cahya Sari Jamil and Algeria's Koceila Mammeri/Tanina Violette Mammeri pulling out of the tournament. Their exits paved the way for China's Chen Xing/Zhang Chi and Indonesia's Marwan Faza/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata to secure places in the main draw.
Who Will Be The No.1 Seeds In Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei?
The No. 1 qualified seed spot belongs to the South Korean powerhouse duo of Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae. Interestingly, due to their sudden departure, the reserve pair of Wong Tien Ci and Lim Chiew Sien was officially promoted to the main 48-pair draw to fill the Malaysian national vacancy.
With Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei out, the mixed doubles title race has opened up. China's Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin, last year's silver medalists, and world No. 1 pair Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dongping emerge as leading contenders. Malaysia's Goh Soon Huat/Shevon Lai Jemie also shoulder the nation's hopes, aiming to capitalize on the opportunity for a podium finish.
