Spain World Cup Squad Features No Real Madrid Players, With Yamal Leading The Selection

Spain has named a 26-player World Cup squad that features Lamine Yamal but no Real Madrid players, a first in the nation’s tournament history. The defending European champions will try to hold both the Euros and World Cup at the same time again. Spain previously achieved this double between 2008 and 2012. According to the Opta supercomputer, La Roja enter the 2026 World Cup as favourites, winning 16% of all pre-tournament simulations.

Spain compete in Group H, opening against Cape Verde on June 15. De la Fuente’s team then meet Saudi Arabia before closing the group against Uruguay. The coach remains confident of having a complete squad available for the first match, despite lingering issues for Yamal, Mikel Merino and Nico Williams.
