India captain Ayush Mhatre led from the front with a stunning half-century as the Men in Blue registered a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over New Zealand via the DLS method in the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 match in Bulawayo on Saturday.
In a rain-affected encounter reduced to 37 overs per side, India delivered a clinical all-round performance to maintain their winning momentum in Group B. Chasing a revised target of 130, the Indian batters made light work of the chase, reaching the target in just 13.3 overs with seven wickets in hand.
Earlier, India's bowlers laid the foundation for victory after opting to field first. RS Ambrish produced a brilliant spell, while Henil Patel provided excellent support as New Zealand's top order collapsed under
pressure. The Kiwis were reduced to 69/7, struggling to build partnerships against disciplined Indian bowling. Although the lower order added some valuable runs, New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 135 in 36.2 overs, a total that never truly threatened India.
India's chase began with an early setback, but Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Mhatre quickly turned the game around with an aggressive partnership that put New Zealand firmly on the back foot. Sooryavanshi played a rapid knock of 40, striking the ball cleanly and keeping the scoreboard moving, while Mhatre accelerated brilliantly to bring up his fifty off just 27 deliveries. Their stand effectively sealed the contest.
After both batters departed, Vihaan Malhotra and Vedant Trivedi ensured there were no further hiccups, calmly guiding India to victory midway through the 14th over.
With this win, India notched up their third consecutive victory in the tournament and strengthened their position at the top of Group B, underlining their status as strong contenders for the title.
