A New Freight Route
The Union Budget 2026, presented by Nirmala Sitharaman, spotlighted a significant infrastructure project: a dedicated freight corridor (DFC) linking Dankuni, West Bengal, with Surat, Gujarat. This initiative,
which spans an impressive 2,052 kilometers, is envisioned to be a catalyst for economic growth across several states. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw elaborated on this, emphasizing the corridor's strategic importance and its potential to stimulate economic activities within the areas it traverses. The DFC will span several states, including Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Maharashtra, ultimately reaching Gujarat. This vast network is designed to improve the efficiency of freight transportation and boost overall economic productivity in these regions. The announcement reflects the government's commitment to enhancing infrastructure to facilitate economic growth.
