Roads Get Facelift
Significant improvements are coming to rural roads in Srikakulam district thanks to a ₹100 crore allocation. This financial backing comes from the Union government, part of the Scheme for Special Assistance
to States for Capital Investment (SASCI). The primary aim of this project is to develop critical infrastructure, specifically focusing on strengthening and constructing roads. The focus will be on the Panchayat Raj roads, and the total stretch of road work planned is approximately 212 km. The Andhra Pradesh government will also benefit, receiving a total of ₹2,000 crore under the same SASCI scheme for similar rural road strengthening initiatives. This scheme is designed to comprehensively develop significant tourist destinations across the country, boosting infrastructure to a global standard, beginning with rural networks. The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department is actively managing the project and is aiming for a swift implementation of the road works.
Project Scope Defined
The allocated funds will cover a total of 66 projects across eight assembly segments within Srikakulam. These projects encompass various road types, including Barrackpore Trunk (BT) Roads, Cement Concrete (CC) Roads, and Gravel and Water Bound Macadam (WBM) Roads. The assembly segments earmarked for these road improvements include Srikakulam with 14 works, Tekkali (12 works), Itchapuram and Narasannapeta (9 works each), Amadalavalasa and Pathapatnam (6 works each), and Palasa (4 works). The initiative seeks to improve connectivity and promote better infrastructure to benefit the residents. The Panchyat Raj Superintending Engineer (SE) K Veerannaidu confirmed the ongoing tender processes and the intention to start work as quickly as possible. This commitment highlights the importance of timely execution to achieve the desired outcomes of improved road networks throughout the district.
