AI Officer's Keen Eye
An innovative AI-powered robotic officer, known as 'ASC Arjun,' recently proved its mettle at the Visakhapatnam railway station. This advanced RoboCop, assigned to surveillance and patrol duties, successfully
identified a pair of individuals flagged as habitual offenders. Its sophisticated facial recognition system cross-referenced the faces of passersby against a comprehensive database of known criminals. Upon detecting a match, the system instantly triggered an alert to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) CCTV Control Room. This rapid notification enabled prompt action, showcasing the proactive capabilities of this technological intervention in preventing potential criminal activities and ensuring passenger safety on railway premises.
Swift Apprehension in Action
Following the alert from 'ASC Arjun,' the RPF CCTV Control Room's head constable, B S Narayana, meticulously reviewed the live camera feed. He swiftly communicated the critical information to Sub Inspector V Keerthi Reddy and the Crime Prevention Detention Squad (CPDS) team from the Waltair Division who were stationed at the station. Acting with remarkable speed and coordination, the RPF team initiated a targeted check. This resulted in the successful apprehension of Hadapa Shiva, aged 39, a known offender, and his associate, G Bhangaru. Their presence at the station without valid journey tickets immediately raised further suspicion, leading to their detainment.
Criminal Past Revealed
Upon being taken to the RPF Post in Visakhapatnam for further processing, a thorough verification of the apprehended individuals' backgrounds was conducted. The investigation uncovered that both Hadapa Shiva and G Bhangaru were not merely petty offenders but were in fact hardcore habitual criminals. Their extensive criminal records, primarily registered at the Rayagada Police Station, encompassed a multitude of serious offenses accumulated over several years. These included charges for theft, robbery, dacoity, assault, and even incidents involving firearms, underscoring the severity of their past transgressions and the importance of their capture.
Joint Investigation Deepens
The apprehension of the two individuals was immediately communicated to the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Visakhapatnam, establishing a collaborative approach to the investigation. A joint interrogation was subsequently carried out by combined teams from both the RPF and the GRP. This collaborative effort aimed to gain a comprehensive understanding of the suspects' activities and affiliations. It was during this detailed inquiry that it was confirmed that the offenders had infiltrated the station premises without the necessary authorization, a transgression first flagged by the AI-enabled facial recognition system of 'ASC Arjun' at the entry point.
Legal Action and Future Plans
As both individuals were found to be traveling without valid tickets, they were subjected to legal action under the provisions stipulated in the Indian Railways Act of 1989, as amended in 2003. The matter was also formally reported to the Rayagada Police, ensuring that relevant authorities were fully informed for any further necessary actions concerning their existing criminal records. Expressing strong appreciation for the success of 'ASC Arjun,' the General Manager of East Coast Railway, Parmeshwar Funkwal, highlighted this incident as a testament to the efficacy of integrating advanced technology into passenger security measures. The positive outcome at Visakhapatnam Railway Station has encouraged the East Coast Railway to actively pursue and expand the deployment of such sophisticated security solutions for the enhanced safety and well-being of all passengers.
