Illegal Fishing Intercepted
A routine coastal patrol by the Nellore District Special Boat Patrolling Task Force led to the interception of a mechanised fishing vessel operating without proper authorization. The boat, identified with the registration
number IND-TN-02-MM-2001, was found actively engaged in fishing activities within the territorial waters of Andhra Pradesh. This unauthorized presence triggered a swift response from the task force, which moved to secure the vessel and detain its crew. The operation underscores the vigilance maintained by Andhra Pradesh's maritime enforcement agencies to safeguard their fishing grounds and prevent infringements by vessels from neighboring states like Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Fishermen Apprehended
Following the successful interception of the unauthorised mechanised boat, seven fishermen onboard were taken into custody. All individuals apprehended were confirmed to be natives of Tamil Nadu. The seized vessel and its detained crew were subsequently transported to the Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour in Nellore District. This location serves as a hub for further investigation and processing of the incident. The authorities are committed to a thorough inquiry to understand the circumstances that led to the illegal entry and fishing operations, ensuring all necessary protocols are followed in dealing with the apprehended fishermen and the seized equipment.
Intensified Coastal Surveillance
Officials have emphasized that the seizure is a direct result of heightened coastal surveillance measures implemented across Andhra Pradesh's coastline. These intensified patrols are specifically designed to prevent the illegal entry of mechanised boats originating from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry into Andhra waters for fishing purposes. To achieve this, a collaborative Task Force has been established, comprising personnel from various governmental departments including the Fisheries Department, Coastal Security Police, and the Forest Department, alongside local fishermen. This joint operational unit conducts daily sea patrols emanating from the Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour, demonstrating a coordinated and robust approach to maritime security and regulatory enforcement.
Patrol Operations Detailed
During the day of the incident, the coastal surveillance efforts involved the deployment of three distinct patrol boats to cover a significant stretch of the coastline. One boat meticulously patrolled the waters from Juvvaladinne, extending its reach to Thummalapenta and Taticherlapalem before returning. Meanwhile, a second patrol boat operated in the vicinity of Krishnapatnam Port, ensuring the security of that critical maritime area. The third patrol boat extended its surveillance route up to Kuppam white, near the SDSC SHAR, signifying a comprehensive coverage strategy. This multi-boat deployment showcases the extensive and systematic nature of the patrols undertaken to maintain coastal integrity and prevent unauthorized maritime activities.
