Amaravati Quantum Valley
Andhra Pradesh is poised to become a hub for quantum technology and biology, thanks to the vision of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. The ambitious Amaravati Quantum Valley project, launched in May
2025, is quickly taking shape. A key element of this initiative is the establishment of a Global Quantum Bio Foundry in Amaravati. This foundry will serve as a nucleus for breakthroughs in areas where traditional computing falls short, such as drug discovery and enzyme engineering. The project's primary goal is to establish Andhra Pradesh as India's leading quantum technology hub, attracting foreign investment, generating high-value jobs, and fostering research-driven enterprises. The state's commitment is evident in the rapid progress made in just nine months. This initiative showcases Andhra Pradesh's proactive approach to embracing future technologies and driving economic growth through innovation.
Key Collaborations Unveiled
The success of the Global Quantum Bio Foundry hinges on strategic collaborations. The project has garnered support from leading institutions, including TCS, IBM, CSIR, IIT Delhi, CVJ Center, and Sentella AI. These partnerships are crucial for fostering innovation and facilitating the implementation of the project's ambitious goals. IBM’s 133-Qubit Quantum System Two, the most advanced of its kind in India, is scheduled for installation in September. This advanced system will provide crucial infrastructure for cutting-edge research and development in quantum computing. The state's ability to attract these collaborations underscores its potential to become a significant player in the global quantum technology arena. The involvement of both national and international entities shows the global significance of this initiative, creating a dynamic ecosystem that will fuel innovation.
Quantum Policy Leadership
Andhra Pradesh has already demonstrated its leadership in the field of quantum technology by becoming the first state in India to implement a quantum policy. This proactive approach has attracted over 60 national and international companies, demonstrating the state's appeal to the global quantum community. This early adoption has created a conducive environment for research, development, and commercialization of quantum technologies. India’s first Quantum Reference Facility will begin operations on April 26. This is further supported by strategic agreements with global institutions, solidifying its position as a frontrunner in quantum technology. The state’s commitment to establishing a comprehensive quantum ecosystem is evident through its policy and infrastructure investments, positioning it as a key player in the national quantum revolution.
Training the Future
Recognizing the importance of human capital, Andhra Pradesh is investing heavily in quantum technology education and training. Over one lakh youth are undergoing quantum training to equip them with the skills necessary for the quantum revolution. Furthermore, 20,000 students from 137 colleges have participated in quantum hackathons. This hands-on approach exposes students to the practical applications of quantum computing and fosters innovation. In addition to these efforts, 1,056 faculty members have received specialised training to prepare the next generation of experts. The comprehensive educational programs and hands-on initiatives will ensure a skilled workforce ready to contribute to the growth of the quantum ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh and beyond. This emphasis on education highlights the state’s long-term vision and commitment to building a sustainable quantum technology industry.
