Karnataka has sanctioned 6.17 acres of land in Hessarghatta in Northwest Bangalore to build Quantum City, the state government announced on Sunday (September 7).
The Quantum City, the government said, is the
first step in its goal towards buildinga $20 billion quantum economy by 2035.

Karnataka sanctioned an additional eight acres of land International Centre for Theoretical Sciences (ICTS –
TIFR) to support research and academic work in theoretical sciences and strengthen Bengaluru’s position as a global hub for advanced science.
The Quantum City will bring together researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs in the field of quantum computing. It will also foster collaboration between academic scholars and industry layers and also create over two lakh jobs by 2030 as a result.
It will act as a hub featuring state-of-the-art research laboratories, startup incubation centres,
and production clusters for quantum hardware and processors, anddata centres for supercomputing facilities.
With this initiative, the state has its sight winning 20% share in the global quantum market. By 2035, the global market for quantum computing is expected to reach $28 billion to $72 billion while quantum communication is to touch $11 billion to $15 billion, and for quantum sensing could reach $0.5 billion to $2.7 billion, according to a McKinsey Digital report.
Government investment has
remained strong at approximately $42 billion as of April 2024, driven by India and other countries like Germany, the UK, and South Korea.
