What is the story about?
Artificial intelligence is entering a decisive inflection point, setting off a new global investment cycle in technology, with close to $3 trillion of capital expenditure currently in play, HCLTech CEO and MD C Vijayakumar said at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Monday.
Speaking on the sidelines of WEF 2026, Vijayakumar said a key emerging theme is “physical AI” — the fusion of robotics and artificial intelligence to enable machines to execute complex real-world tasks with greater stability and contextual intelligence — a space he expects to scale into a trillion-dollar industry by 2030.
While acknowledging that some existing business lines may see deflation, he noted that the new opportunities are “exciting,” adding that HCLTech aims to scale its new service mines to $2.5 billion in the next two to three years.

Underlining how the company is leveraging AI capabilities, Vijayakumar said that 25–35% of coding and development work at HCLTech is now done by AI. He further noted that, eventually, everything will need to have AI infusion.
