What is the story about?
India-based AI startup Sarvam AI has announced a significant price reduction for its document intelligence platform, Sarvam Vision, following strong adoption among developers and enterprise customers.
The company revealed that over 35 million pages are currently being digitised through the Sarvam Vision API, which is why it has decided to pass on the efficiency gains to customers through a significant price reduction.
Launched in February, Sarvam Vision is a vision-language model designed for document intelligence and digitisation tasks. Since its debut, the platform has processed millions of documents, enabling organisations to transform physical records into searchable and accessible digital formats.
Now, in a post on X, the company announced that it is reducing the price of the Sarvam Vision API from ₹ 1.5 per page to ₹0.5 per page, due to its improved efficiency at scale since launch.
The post reads, “Earlier this February, we launched Sarvam Vision, a vision-language model for document intelligence. Today, more than 35 million pages are being digitised through the Sarvam Vision API by developers and partners. Since launch, we've made it significantly more efficient to serve at scale. We're now passing these gains on by reducing the Sarvam Vision API price from 1.5 to 0.5 per page."
The new pricing represents a nearly 67% reduction, making the platform significantly more cost-effective for enterprises and developers handling large-scale document processing.
Explaining the changes, the company added, "As adoption grew, we began serving users with considerably higher document volumes. So, we reworked parts of our serving stack - optimised inference kernels for state-space architecture, smarter page-level batching, better hardware utilisation across our sovereign cloud. The result is a model that runs far more efficiently at scale. We're passing these gains directly to our users through this price drop."
Sarvam Vision is built for document intelligence and OCR (optical character recognition) tasks, allowing users to extract and digitise information from scanned documents, forms, archives, handwritten manuscripts and financial records. Designed for India's multilingual ecosystem, the model supports all 22 official Indian languages.
The company has previously stated that Sarvam Vision achieved an accuracy score of 84.3 per cent on olmOCR-Bench and 93.28 per cent on OmniDocBench v1.5 during benchmark evaluations.
Positioning itself as a sovereign AI company, Sarvam AI is focused on developing foundational AI technologies for India while leveraging domestic infrastructure. Its broader goal is to make advanced AI capabilities more accessible to Indian developers, enterprises and institutions.
The latest pricing revision comes at a time when demand for AI-driven document processing solutions is growing rapidly across sectors such as finance, healthcare, education and public services.
