Election Day: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
On Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2026, polling places across the entire state of Georgia are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern Time. This is the standard, uniform time for all counties. Unlike early voting, on Election Day you must vote at your specifically assigned polling location. You can verify your polling place on the Georgia Secretary of State's My Voter Page. Planning your trip to the polls during these hours is the most traditional way to vote, but it's no longer the only option available to Georgians.
The Golden Rule: Stay in Line
One of the most important rules for Georgia voters to know is that if you are in line to vote by 7 p.m., you must be allowed to cast your ballot. Even if the line is long and you don't reach the voting booth until well after the official
closing time, your right to vote is protected by state law as long as you were in the queue before the deadline. Do not leave the line if poll workers are trying to determine who arrived by 7 p.m. This provision ensures that high turnout or technical issues don't disenfranchise voters who showed up on time.
Early In-Person Voting Hours
For those who prefer to avoid the Election Day rush, Georgia offers a generous early voting period. For the 2026 General Election, in-person early voting runs from October 13 to October 30. During this time, you can vote at any designated early voting location within your county. Hours for early voting can vary by county, but they must be open during normal business hours on weekdays. Many counties offer extended hours and weekend voting, including on mandatory Saturdays. To find the specific hours and locations for your county, check the My Voter Page or contact your county registrar's office directly.
Absentee Ballot Deadlines
If you are voting by absentee ballot, the deadline is not about when you mail it, but when it is received. Your completed absentee ballot must be in the hands of your county election office by 7 p.m. on Election Day, November 3, 2026. A postmark on Election Day is not sufficient. You can return your ballot by mail—allowing ample time for delivery—or hand-deliver it to your county registrar's office or a designated secure ballot drop box. Drop boxes are also closed at 7 p.m. on Election Day. The last day to request an absentee ballot is October 23, 2026.
Tips for a Smooth Voting Day
To ensure your voting experience is as smooth as possible, a little preparation goes a long way. Before you head out, double-check your voter registration status and assigned polling place on the state's My Voter Page. Make sure you have one of the required forms of photo ID, such as a Georgia driver’s license, U.S. passport, or valid government-issued photo ID. You can even view a sample ballot for your precinct online so you know exactly what races and questions to expect. Finally, remember that voters aged 75 or older, or those who are physically disabled, can request to vote immediately at the next available station without waiting in line.
