The first official step in certifying Michigan’s election results happens at the local level, within each of the state's 83 counties. This job falls to the Boards of County Canvassers. The All-Important Deadlines
The timeline for election certification in Michigan is clearly defined by state law to ensure a prompt and orderly conclusion to the electoral process. For the November 3, 2026, general election, the key dates are straightforward. County boards must meet by November 5 and complete their certification by November 17. Following that, the Board of State Canvassers must meet to canvass and certify the final, statewide results no later than 20 days after the election, which sets the deadline for November 23, 2026.
