Three and a half months after the 2026 NFL Draft took over Pittsburgh's Downtown and North Shore with record crowds, two independent studies estimated how much money it brought into the Steel City.
Independent analyses by SportsImpact and Trajektory calculated the 2026 NFL Draft's economic impact on Pittsburgh and the economic value for the region. The three-day event, spanning from April 23 through April 25, had a major economic impact on the region.
Here's a breakdown of the figures and the impact the draft had on Pittsburgh.
How the NFL Draft left $1.5 billion in economic impact on Pittsburgh
SportsImpact and Trajektory found that the 2026 NFL Draft brought $177 million in economic impact to Pittsburgh, as well as more than $1.5 billion in economic value for the Pittsburgh region, according to a press release
from Visit Pittsburgh.
SportsImpact calculated the economic impact throughout the Pittsburgh region by reviewing attendance, visitor spending, overnight stays and related economic activity.
The 2026 NFL Draft performed well in Pittsburgh because of things like the Downtown's walkability, the city's nationally recognized hospitality industry, the iconic riverfront setting, the proximity to more than half a dozen NFL markets and the legacy of the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to SportsImpact. And its impact could continue to be felt for years to come.
75% of visitors said they were likely to come back to Pittsburgh within the next five years, SportsImpact found, with 83% of visitors saying they were very satisfied with their trip. Fifty-one percent said their perception of Pittsburgh improved because of their visit, while 78% rated Pittsburgh as an excellent host city for large scale events.

Approximately 805,000 people representing 105 countries attended the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, making it the largest NFL Draft in history, according to Visit Pittsburgh.
The draft made Pittsburgh more visible on a worldwide scale, according to an analysis by Trajektory, which looked at the city's exposure through broadcast television, public relations coverage, owned social media, earned social media and in-venue media exposure. It drew more than twice the impressions and followers of any previous Draft host, with social post value that was 69% higher than the three-year host average. The Pittsburgh Steelers saw the most social engagement of any NFL club during draft week.
Overall, Pittsburgh saw 8.6 billion broadcast impressions, with more than 55 million viewers worldwide, according to Trajektory. The city received 385 hours of national broadcast coverage 209 million in-venue impressions and more than 55 million combined social media engagements.
The PR publicity value during the 2026 NFL Draft week was estimated at $1.41 billion, while owned and earned social media value was estimated at $27 million. Direct in-venue value was estimated at $4.74 million.
