If the first half served as a wake-up call for the Los Angeles Rams, they answered it in the second.
The Rams seemingly flipped a switch in their 24-9 win over the Los Angeles Chargers - despite appearing as if they might fall into the trap of playing a winless Bolts team, struggling to get into a rhythm and failing to move the ball offensively for much of the first two quarters. But the defense did their part, holding the Chargers to three points each time they marched down the field and keeping the door open for Matthew Stafford and Co. to take the lead right before halftime.
And once the Rams came back out of the tunnel for the second half, they shut that door.
The run game got going behind an 11-play, 79-yard drive to open the third quarter,
54 of which were courtesy of Blake Corum, who capped off the possession with a 23-yard house call. The defense clamped down even further, picking off Justin Herbert twice as the Rams came away with their second consecutive win, the first time they've done so all season.
LA seems to be picking up steam after a slow start marked by key injuries on both sides of the ball. They have an opportunity to keep the momentum rolling with games against the Washington Commanders (1-4) and a shot at revenge against the Arizona Cardinals (3-5) over the next two weeks.
Here are the winners and losers from Sunday's Week 8 matchup between the Rams and Chargers:
Winners
Rams run game
The Rams were held without a first down through their first four drives on Sunday before finally breaking through on a touchdown drive capped by Kyren Williams in the final two minutes of the first half to take a 10-9 lead into the locker room. By the time they took the field again in the second half, the offense was rejuvenated, marching down the field on an 11-play, 79-yard drive powered by Blake Corum. On his fifth carry of the series, Corum took it to the house for a 23-yard touchdown, doubling their lead before the Chargers even had a chance to touch the ball again.

Corum and Williams finished the day with a combined 129 yards and two touchdowns on 27 touches.
Trent McDuffie
McDuffie announced his return in a big way on Sunday, leading the Rams with nine total tackles, a tackle for loss, a pass defended and a pivotal interception late in the third quarter that he returned for 26 yards to set the offense up just outside the red zone.

The Rams quickly capitalized on the opportunity as Stafford connected with Puka Nacua for an 18-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the drive to make it a two-score game, all but putting it out of reach for a Chargers offense that could not finish drives all afternoon.
Rams D-Line
The Rams' most vaunted unit quickly became their most shorthanded over the first half of the season, but they've still found ways to produce without Myles Garrett, Poona Ford or Kobie Turner for the second straight week. They didn't do a great job of getting to the elusive Herbert with just two sacks, but the front seven neutralized the Chargers' rushing attack and held them to just 64 total yards between Kimani Vidal, Omarion Hampton, Herbert and Keaton Mitchell.
Losers
Justin Herbert
"If Man" strikes again. The Chargers offense was set up for success by a defense that excelled in the first half and they were able to move the ball well between the 20-yard-lines, but stalled out once they got into field goal range and left the door open for the Rams to rally at the end of the half and take control of the game early in the third.
Herbert's struggles this season have been well documented, and the sixth-year veteran out of Oregon didn't do himself any favors with two careless mistakes that resulted in picks on Sunday. His 10 interceptions this season lead the NFL.
The Chargers have not scored an offensive touchdown in nine consecutive quarters. Plenty of blame will go around between Jim Harbaugh and Mike McDaniel, but it's a chilling - and telling - sign for this offense that their franchise quarterback looks just as uncomfortable out there as he did in Week 1.
Matthew Stafford
Herbert's counterpart was having an equally rough day through the first two quarters. Stafford threw a pick on the Rams' first drive of the day and the offense couldn't move the ball from there as they were held without a first down until their two-minute drill right before halftime.
Stafford got into a rhythm on that drive and did enough to lead the Rams to the win in the second half; he finished the day 17-of-25 for 157 passing yards and a touchdown, with an interception.
Jim Harbaugh
Watching the Chargers this season has been like witnessing a car accident; everything seems to move in slow motion as you watch the inevitable disaster unfold. This isn't the Harbaugh LA expected when they signed him fresh off a national championship at Michigan, but it probably should've been. Don't forget how quickly he wore out his welcome in San Francisco just a year after leading the 49ers to three consecutive NFC Championship games in his first three seasons.
He hasn't achieved nearly that much success with the Chargers, but the fallout already feels all too familiar.
