Genesis is Hyundai's luxury brand that initially started as a sedan nameplate for the South Korean automaker. Now, a decade into being a standalone brand, Genesis is all grown up, and it's unveiling its new GV90 electric SUV to show it.
Genesis said in an Aug. 20 press release that the GV90 is the company's "first full-size flagship SUV" and it represents a "culmination of brand’s capabilities."
“GV90 is not simply a new vehicle, but a new vision for luxury mobility that brings together inspiring design, AI-powered software and connectivity, and industry-leading safety,” Euisun Chung, executive chair of Hyundai Motor Group, said in a statement. “Technology alone does not create luxury, and design alone does not define luxury. The value of innovation
lies in transforming the customer experience in intelligent and intuitive ways to improve people's lives."
The brand new GV90 is expected to start around $100,000, according to Carfax. It will compete against electric full-sized luxury SUVs from other manufacturers like the Cadillac Escalade IQ, Mercedes-Benz EQS, Lucid Gravity, Rivian R1s and the upcoming Range Rover Electric.
With that in mind, the USA TODAY Cars Team compiled some info about the brand Genesis GV90 for consumers who may be interested in considering the plug-in electric SUV.
What are the specs of the new Genesis GV90?
Genesis said the GV90 will be available in two variants. The GV90 Neolun, featuring the Neolun Arch Gate has the world’s first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar coach doors, the company said. The standard GV90 comes with conventional swinging doors.
Genesis said the GV90m will also be equipped with a 123.5 kilowatt-hour large-capacity high-voltage battery that will have an estimated range about 310 miles on a single charge. The company said the battery will charge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes when using a 350-kilowatt fast charger.
The car will also feature multi-chamber air suspension, a pop-up center OLED Cinematic Display, a Bang & Olufsen’s Premier 3D sound system with 25 speakers and Dolby Atmos and the world’s first roof airbag, according to the South Korean automaker.

How will Genesis GV90 compare to the manufacturer's other electric cars?
The brand new GV90 will be the fourth fully electric car that Genesis features in its lineup, joining the smaller GV60 and the electrified GV70 SUVs and GV80 sedan. The GV90 will be company's first electric three-row SUV, and it will set up to seven passengers.
Genesis said the GV90 will also feature "a new motor system that delivers the most powerful performance among Hyundai Motor Group EVs." The vehicle comes with a combined maximum output of 490 kilowatts and 800 Newton-meters of torque from the front and rear motors, the company said.
Genesis said the GV90's Neolun trim will feature the world’s first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar coach doors, which the company said will deliver "a unique experience that embodies the brand’s hospitality philosophy when entering the vehicle." The company says the Neolun version will also feature swiveling front seats that can do a full 180 rotation when the vehicle is in park to "elevate the interior experience to an entirely new level."
Genesis has sold a modest 560 of its other electric models so far this year, according to Cox Automotive. The company's top-selling electric model thus far this year has been the GV60, which starts at $46,250.
