Simone Biles is recovering from another medical procedure just weeks after revealing she suffered what she described as a life-threatening health emergency.
The Olympic gymnastics star shared a photo on Instagram July 23 showing herself in medical scrubs alongside husband Jonathan Owens, revealing that the Indianapolis Colts safety spent part of his 31st birthday taking her to an appointment.
“His birthday but he takes me to get my procedure,” Biles wrote, adding several heart emojis.
Biles, 29, did not disclose what procedure she underwent and has yet to explain the health scare she revealed last month.
The seven-time Olympic gold medalist shocked fans in June when she shared a photo from a hospital bed and said she had experienced one of the scariest
moments of her life.
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles wrote on Instagram Stories at the time. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week.”
She said the situation was made even more difficult because Owens was away at training camp with the Colts. Biles later told followers she had been resting in bed while recovering and promised she would eventually share more about what happened.
Biles says she's still not ready to discuss medical emergency
A week later, after posting a video from a trip to Belize, Biles responded to a fan who asked about her "near death experience.
“Not ready to talk about it just yet ❤️🩹,” she replied.
Biles has since been out and about, traveling, attending Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's Madison Square Garden wedding and even served as one of the presenters at the annual ESPYs in New York City on Wednesday, July 15. But she continues to draw criticism from social media users.
After one commenter wrote, "Almost died but look at these traveling selfies...," Biles pushed back.
“Ugh these comments made me sad,” she wrote. “A little over two weeks ago, I experienced a serious medical emergency that could have ended very differently, and this trip has been part of allowing myself to heal and appreciate being here.”
She added that the experience had changed her perspective, and she urged critics to show “a little more grace.”
Biles said she was spending the week recovering in bed and told followers she would explain the medical emergency “sooner or later.” She also thanked those who had checked on her, later sharing a photo cuddled up with her two dogs and writing, “i’ll be here.”
