Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson will not play Sunday, Oct. 18, against the Cleveland Browns, marking the second straight game he will miss due to injury.
Jackson has been sidelined with a left ankle sprain after injuring his ankle when a Tennessee Titans defender fell tackled him in the final seconds of the second quarter on Oct. 4. He was immediately ruled out for the remainder of that game. Despite his absence, the Ravens managed to secure a 24-18 victory over the Titans.
Despite early optimism that Jackson might return against the Browns, he missed all three practices this week and has officially been ruled out, according to head coach Jesse Minter. The Ravens will continue to rely on backup quarterback Tyler "Snoop" Huntley in his absence.
Huntley will make his second start of the season against the Browns. He led the Ravens to a 23-3 overtime win in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons.
“(Tyler Huntley)’s a really good player, and he’s got a great demeanor," Minter said Friday, Oct. 16. "He’s got great poise. He has great respect amongst his teammates. He’s just (an) infectious personality. Infectious can be different, (but) he’s just cool, calm, collected, confident — that to me, that’s infectious. When he’s in there, that’s kind of how the guys feel, and it’s really no different with Lamar."
Huntley's performance will be crucial as the Ravens look to maintain their position at the top of the AFC North.
When will Lamar Jackson return?
Jackson was ruled out of the Week 6 game against the Cleveland Browns because of an ongoing ankle injury, though Minter said he "is definitely doing better." Tyler Huntley will start for the Ravens in his place.
“It’s day-by-day, I would say," Minter said on Friday. "I think it’s just a decision for [Lamar Jackson]’s best interest. That’s really what every decision’s always going to be about.”
