Evenflo is recalling nearly 60,000 child seats because their headrests may shift position during a crash.
Evenflo Company, Inc. issued a recall for 59,661 Reo by Revolve360 child seats because when the headrests are adjusted to their highest forward-facing and rear-facing positions, they may shift during a crash, according to the recall listed on the Evenflo website.
The issue arises specifically when the seats are raised in positions 10 and 11 in their forward-facing mode or position 11 in rear-facing mode, according to the Evenflo website. The issue is not present when the seats are raised to positions 1-9 in forward-facing mode or 1-10 in rear-facing mode.
As of July 23, Evenflo was not aware of any injuries related to the issue, per the company's
website. Evenflo predicts 100% of the outlined models are impacted.
The issue was discovered during dynamic testing with a 3-year-old dummy, according to a July 17 National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall report.
What Evenflo child seats are recalled?
The following Evenflo child seats are affected by the recall, according to the Evenflo website and NHTSA report:
- CS260212521 (Color: Brookline) (14,622 impacted)
- CS260212522 (Color: Lenox) (14,712 impacted)
- CS260212536 (Color: Holden) (14,215 impacted)
- CS260212537 (Color: Nantucket) (1,710 impacted)
- CS260212538 (Color: Danvers) (12,855 impacted)
- CS260212539 (Color: Chelsea) (1,547 impacted)
The following child seats were sold in Canada and are also affected by the recall, according to the Evenflo website:
- CS260212521C (Color: Brookline)
- CS260212538C (Color: Danvers)
Where is the model number located on the child seats?
The model number is printed on the product label on the back of the car seat shell, according to the Evenflo website. The manufacture date and model number can also be on the back of the headrest. To see the white label, raise the headrest and rotate the car seat to the side-facing position.
What to do if you own the recalled child seat
Register your child seat online to receive information about when a free remedy is available on the Evenflo website. Do not return the child seat, Evenflo says on its website.
In the meantime, the seats can continue to be used when raised to positions 1-9 in forward-facing mode or 1-10 in rear-facing mode, according to the Evenflo website.
However, if your child is tall enough to require the seats to be raised in positions 10 and 11 in forward-facing mode or position 11 in rear-facing mode, do not use them.
