It wasn’t a blue wave that took hold of America on Election Day 2026. It was more like a blue tsunami, turning deeply red districts, crimson state capitols and generational Republican strongholds to the left, in an angry, biting referendum on our current political landscape.
In a sound rebuke – tired of seeing that word yet? – of President Donald Trump and the Republican Party, Democrats flipped seven Senate seats and won 228 House seats to take commanding control of both chambers.
But Trump is still president and seemingly uninterested in bipartisan cooperation – as evidenced by the signature MAGA red hat bearing the word “VETO” he posted on Truth Social late Nov. 3.
Democrats control Congress. What do you want them to do next?
So now,
the big question after a history-making night: What happens next?
- Do you think Trump and Congress can work together? On what? How do you think the next two years will play out with a divided government?
- What would you like to see Democrats do with their newfound control of the House and Senate? What should they avoid doing?
- What do the midterm election results mean for the future of the Republican Party?
- Were you surprised by the results? By any particular races?
How did election night turn out in your city and state? Are you hopeful or concerned about what happens next? What, if anything, do you think might change at the state level that may not at the federal government level?
