Bruce Campbell has an update on his cancer battle, revealing that a recent prognosis expects he has five more years left to live.
During a Sept. 3 episode of "The Adam Carolla Show," the 68-year-old actor, best known for his roles in "The Evil Dead" franchise, declined to share what type of cancer he has, but said that he has a life expectancy of five more years "give or take."
"I've decided though, pretty specifically, to live with it, not die from it," he told host Adam Carolla. "The cancer rabbit hole is enormous. You can go into focus groups of 10,000 guys who have exactly what you have. I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole."
Instead of going down the "massive rabbit hole," the Michigan-born actor said he will focus on promoting his new film
"Ernie & Emma," an independent dramedy he wrote, directed, produced and stars in.
"I'm moving on. I got a movie to promote. And when I promote this movie, I have nothing. I'm free and clear when I promote this movie mentally," Campbell said. "You have to make this decision of, 'well, okay, but do I have to stop everything that I'm doing because of this?' Well, no."
Campbell added that he feels "perfect" right now as he continues to refuse to let his battle stop him from living life.
"The cancer, it creep me out because of the ancillary stuff that it does. It's not just, you don't die for cancer. You die from what cancer does to you," he continued.
Bruce Campbell said his cancer is 'treatable, not curable'
In March, Campbell opened up about his health battle in a statement shared on social media earlier this month, in which he said his cancer is "treatable, not curable."
"I apologize if that's a shock - it was to me. I'm not gonna go into more detail," he wrote. "I'm posting this because professionally, a few things will have to change - appearances and cons and work in general need to take back seat to treatment."
The cult movie icon said that he hoped to get well by the summer so he could tour for his new film, "Ernie & Emma."
"It doesn’t change anything for me," he told the Salem Statesman Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network, in March. "It makes you prioritize 100 percent, and for me, the priority is this movie."
"Ernie & Emma" follows a small-town pear salesman who embarks on a "journey of challenging and reflective escapades" as he follows a detailed list of instructions for what to do with his late wife's ashes, according to the film synopsis.
