An American Airlines flight diverted after takeoff “due to a reported odor onboard caused by an oven,” the airline said.
Flight 719 from Rome Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport to Philadelphia International Airport changed course on July 25, heading to Dublin Airport in Ireland. After landing, paramedics met the plane at the gate and evaluated the aircraft’s flight attendants as well as one customer.
All those evaluated were released. There were 281 passengers and 12 crew members on board at the time of the incident.
The airline provided complimentary hotels for flyers and accommodated them on other flights to Philadelphia.
“We appreciate the understanding of our customers and thank our team members for their professionalism,” American
said in an emailed statement.
The carrier did not share additional specifics about the nature of the odor. The Federal Aviation Administration did not immediately share a comment.
The news comes after a JetBlue flight from San Francisco to Boston was rerouted to Chicago after an odor was reported in the cabin in April.
